It's been a long wait but finally, Apple has announced their first new products of 2021. At their later than normal first Apple event of the year, we finally have release dates for the iPad Pro 2021, iMac 2021 and a brand new device, AirTag which are all coming in May.
Promised to be the most advanced and powerful iPad ever created the iPad Pro 2021 uses stunning visuals through the new Liquid Retina XDR display. This means that the 12.9-inch iPad Pro 2021 can capture the brightest highlights and delicate details even in darkness. 5G is also available on the iPad Pro 2021 for the first time, allowing high-quality video streaming, HD FaceTime quality and high-speed internet access. The iPad Pro 2021 now supports Thunderbolt meaning that the new iPad Pro 2021 has the fastest, most adaptable port ever. Coming with 4x more bandwidth the Thunderbolt supports 10Gbps Ethernet and therefore allows for high-performance accessories, like faster external storage and high-resolution display. The most exciting feature of the brand iPad Pro 2021 is the M1 chip, that previously only excited in Apple’s MacBook 2020. Greg Joswiak, Apple’s senior vice president of Worldwide Marketing stated: “The revolutionary M1 chip has been a breakthrough for the Mac, and we’re incredibly excited to bring it to iPad Pro”. The M1 chip delivers up to 50% faster CPU performance while the 8-core GPU has a 40% faster performance. The M1 chips allows for top of the range performance for longer with its all-day battery life meaning you can do more of the things you love with the iPad Pro 2021. Another exciting piece of tech Apple has announced is the brand-new iMac 2021. Built with a 1080p FaceTime HD camera the iMac 2021 has the best camera in any Mac out there. If this wasn’t enough the iMac 2021 has been built with three studio-quality speakers allowing for clearer calls and voice recordings. Like the iPad Pro 2021, the iMac 2021 is equipped with the M1 chip. The M1 chip allows the iMac 2021 to have up to 3x faster machine learning, the ability to edit 5 streams of 4k footage (or one stream of 8k footage) while having 85% faster CPU performance. Touch ID, for the first time, has come to iMac allowing for quicker and more secure access.
Apple is currently carbon neutral, and by 2030, plan to have a net-zero climate impact. A way for them to achieve this is through the iMac 2021. Built using a low-carbon aluminium enclosure and using 100% recycled tin while being packaged with 100% recycled wood fibre. The iMac 2021 is available to order from the 30th of April here, and it arrives in mid-May.
Lastly, Apple has introduced us to a brand-new product that has been heavily rumoured for a while, the AirTag. The latest innovation in Apple's Find My ecosystem, the AirTag is an accessory that provides a private and secure way to locate your items.
You can attach the AirTag to your handbag, backpack, keys or any other item and if you lose one of these items you can track them down all while keeping data location private with end-to-end encryption.
AirTag is available to buy on the 30th of April here, and you can purchase one for £29 or a four-pack for £99.
